New ICAN-UK website launched at CND International Conference

CND's International Conference took place on October 10th at Mary Ward House in Central London. The day focused on the 2010 nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and how campaigners can make an impact on negotiations towards abolition.

ICAN-UK patron Dr Rebecca Johnson spoke at the first plenary, discussing the importance of a Nuclear Weapons Convention (NWC) and describing it as an idea whose time had come.

Caroline Lucas MEP then spoke of the need for public pressure to advance the NWC's cause within the European Parliament.

John Loretz of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) participated in the afternoon session and argued that current negotiations toward a Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) and a Fissile Material Cut Off Treaty (FMCT) should be treated as first steps on the road to a NWC.

After the plenary sessions, ICAN-UK hosted a reception to launch the group's new website- icanw.org.uk.
